Boutiques : computer meet fashion, happy ending?

"fashion comes and go, but style is forever" - Yves St. Laurent

That is one of the most wellknown quote in fashion industry, me myself, heard it everytime I watched Style Star on E! channel. "style is forever", maybe that part of the quote that inspired these bunch of 'computer nerd' and 'fashion nerd' from Google to collaborate in creating an online personalized fashion shop called Boutiques.com. Because Internet can immortalize almost everything. (-hey, I do not know that they hired fashion nerd too, I think the word 'fashion' does not match with 'nerd'-no offense ^_^)

In their blog, Google claims Boutiques as "a personalized shopping experience that lets you find and discover fashion goods". The fashion-nerd team at Google realize that fashion shopping is different from buying common hard goods like electronics, fashion shopping is about finding the right clothes or accessories that fit individual taste and also feels right. In Boutiques, online-buyer or online-window-shopper can do more than just purchase goods, they can curate their own style through their own boutiques and also they can look at collection of boutiques that curated by fashion expert, celebrities, and fashion bloggers. Boutiques's engine powered by technology that can visually analyze shopper taste and match it with items that they would like. This is just like any other Google products, isn't it?

With the launch of Boutiques.com, Google try to capture online shop behavior of their user. I do not really sure why they choose fashion as the first industry they backed up online exclusively, we already know that they already had Google Product Search. It is maybe more about competition with Facebook. Today Facebook has grown more than just social network to a platform for seller and buyer, and most of it is fashion. With Facebook shadowing them in online advertising market, Google try extra hard to protect their interest with broaden their area of services. But they do not cross the line, they know they are no capitalist enough to do online shop by themselves. They stick to their platform role and let people -in this case online fashion seller- to meet with their user. It is all always about stickiness and new users acquisition. I think one day they will conquered the world, imagine the world ruled by a bunch of nerd Phd's -ouch- Kidding and no kidding everyone.

That is all about Boutiques.com from me, I'm looking forward to try it and see how far they will going with this new product. And last but not least, Happy Idul Adha everyone :)

I think its really interesting to see big companies trying to figure out shopping... its like the nerd getting together with beauty. I like the visual design on boutiques.com and to a certain extent, it does make shopping entertaining. There are some companies that try to use they're technology with fashion... indi is a brand that combines the two. They make custom clothing that is tailor made to fit your own measurements.
